Congratulations to our Upper Sixth who collected their A Level results this morning. We are so proud of you!

Head of Senior School, Mrs Sarah Capewell said: “These are a superb set of A Level results and are a well-deserved reward for the hard work and determination shown by our pupils and the dedicated support offered by their teachers. Not only have they worked hard on their academic subjects, but have also benefited from the wide variety of opportunities at the school. We look forward to seeing the great things they will achieve as they take their next steps beyond SGS.”

47% of grades are at A* and A, and 90% at A* to C.

Four A*s secured Tuguldur Zolzaya’s place to study Chemistry at the University of Oxford. Tuguldur thanked his teachers, saying: “SGS really wants you to get to your full potential, and you’re supported and encouraged to apply to Oxbridge. And they prepared me well for the interview process. I’m excited for what happens next. I’m looking forward to meeting a lot more people and experiencing life in Oxford.” Alongside his A Levels, Tuguldur got fully involved in SGS’s super-curricular programme with the Maths and Physics Olympiads and Chemistry extension.

Anna Collins-Room said she was “really happy and so excited” to be going to Durham University to study English Literature following her three A*s and an A. Duke of Edinburgh Gold, the expedition in Snowdonia, and the Paris Music Tour are among the highlights of her time at SGS with her mum saying “she’s loved every minute”.

The capital is calling for Hamza Noman as he is off to Queen Mary University of London to study Medicine after achieving an A* and two As. Hamza threw himself into activities, both in and out of the classroom, whilst at SGS. A footballer, Hamza also played as point guard for the school’s basketball team, completed the Duke Of Edinburgh’s Award programme and took part in the Chemistry and Biology Olympiads. His A* was in Psychology so it is no surprise that he was involved in the department’s Aspire Club. He thanked everyone in the Psychology department for their help – especially Mr Buxton-Cope, the department’s Head.

Ayan Farooq joined SGS in the Junior School and, with an A* and two As, he is also now all set to study Medicine. He is looking forward to a career in which research and learning are a long term focus. He has especially enjoyed the Sixth Form and said “the amount of support you get for Medicine is a massive help”. A keen boxer out of school, Ayan has also completed Duke of Edinburgh at Gold level with SGS.

Three A*s and one A see Phoebe Ferris off to the University of Birmingham to study Psychology. The netballer, who plays at wing attack, noted the ski trip as a highlight of her time at SGS and was delighted that her hard work studying had paid off.

With two A*s and an A, Head of School Raayan Akbar is looking forward to starting his degree apprenticeship with PWC, one of the world’s largest international accounting and professional services firms. The next 4 years will see Raayan combine a ‘Flying Start’ degree in Business Accountancy at Manchester University with work at PWC. Raayan joined SGS at Year 2 in the Junior School. Raayan thanked his teachers at SGS for their support throughout his time at school. His success is even more remarkable because major spinal surgery and a serious infection just two years ago meant that Raayan spent five months of his Lower Sixth year studying at home with the help of his teachers.

With three A*s and an A, George Steele is looking forward to celebrating this evening with his friends before he gets ready to start his Chemical Engineering course at the University of Birmingham. George said “My grades are better than I expected. I’ve enjoyed my time at school, particularly the Sixth Form.”

Lucy Smith was “absolutely chuffed” with her one A* and three As and is very excited to study her favourite subject every day at Durham University – English Literature. The Deputy Head of School was massively involved in the musical side of the school and was an integral part of a number of ensembles. Lucy was thankful of the support of all of the staff and pupils, praising the generosity of the whole SGS community.

Otto’s career plan is to be a Chartered Surveyor and he is off to a great start with his first choice place at the University of Reading to study Quantity Surveying. Fencing and Archery have kept Otto busy at school alongside his A Level studies.

Keen sports star Amelie Batey was happy that her hard work paid off as she picked up an A* and three As. The House Senior Prefect was particularly happy with her A in History and will use her knowledge to good effect as she studies Politics at University of York. She also thanked Head of Upper Sixth Mrs Ashton for all of her support.

During his time at SGS, Joseph has taken part in many clubs including Criminology Club, Cooking Club and Climbing Club. He said he felt that a “weight had been lifted” when he received his results and hopes to one day work in Clinical Psychology.

Netball player Brooke Richards was really happy with her two A*s and one A. Her results mean that she will be heading to the University of Lincoln to study Creative Advertising. She thanked the Art department for their support in helping her achieve an A* in the subject.

With an A* in English Literature, Alice Thomson is thrilled to be able to study the subject full time whilst at the University of Edinburgh. She was also very happy with her As in Drama and Latin. Alice was hugely involved in the co-curricular side of the school – she played the titular role in this year’s production of Cinderella, was a keen dancer and was in the Chorus. She really enjoyed this year’s Music Tour to Paris and thanked the Drama department and Head of English Mrs Cope for their support during her time at SGS.

The University of Birmingham awaits Harry Meanwell. With one A and two Bs, Harry will follow in his mum’s footsteps and study Physiotherapy. Harry, who has been at SGS since First Year, said he “really enjoyed” his time at school and will leave with many fond memories.

Another Upper Sixth Former heading to the University of Birmingham is keen musician Sam Burrows. Sam was pleased with his grades which have earned him a place to study Bio-Chemistry. While at school, Sam spent much of his time in the Music department – having been a member of two choirs and three bands as well as playing both the piano and euphonium. He has just returned from the Music tour to Paris this summer and is looking forward to continuing playing music at university. Sam’s parents said: “We cannot praise the Music department enough – it has become Sam’s second home and the staff have been amazing and encouraging.”

SGS’s Girls’ Football captain, Emily Mills, is very excited to go to Loughborough University to study Sports Science thanks to her one A* and two As. She can’t wait to get involved in their excellent sporting provision – especially the football and cheerleading. Emily loved the ski trip as she enjoys being on the slopes and made some of her best friends on the trip. Emily said that, as Girls’ Football captain, she was proud to help develop the sport at SGS and encouraged girls in younger year groups to keep playing and grab all of the opportunities available.

With the trips to Honduras and Iceland being highlights of Louis Noone’s time at SGS, it is no surprise that he will head to Sheffield Hallam University to study Geography. He was thankful of the opportunities available to him to whilst at school and he is excited to tackle his next challenge.
