Community and Heritage – Book our Open House

The quad at Stockport Grammar School

Founded in 1487, Stockport Grammar School is one of the oldest schools in the country. Join us on the 10th September for a guided tour, and coffee and cake, and discover Sir Edmond Shaa’s enduring commitment to the children of his home-town and our plans for the future. Our Open House is part of the National Heritage Open Days week.

SGS has been at the heart of Stockport for 537 years. From its origins in St Mary’s Church, the school moved to different sites before locating at the current Hallam site on Buxton Road in 1916.

The school’s commitment to the children of Stockport continues – providing an inspiring academic education in a happy and supportive school community, outreach programmes and facility use for local schools and groups, and bursary places for families who require assistance to afford school fees.

The Open House will begin at 6pm with a brief welcome before we commence the tour of the old and new on our post-1916 Hallam site (event concludes at 7.15pm). Everyone welcome but pre-booking is essential:
