Dancers’ delight at performing on the national stage

Dancers on stage during the Making Moves National Platform at Sadler's Wells

SGS dancers had the time of their lives as they took to the stage at Sadler’s Wells Theatre for the Making Moves National Platform.

Our school dance company was selected to perform at the final of the prestigious competition after impressing at the Regional Platform at The Lowry Theatre with their piece, ‘The Place’. They created this choreography in partnership with Teacher of Dance Mrs Abi Downing drawing inspiration and input from choreographer Dannielle ‘Rhimes’ Lecointe from ZooNation: The Kate Prince Company.

The team were thrilled to receive glowing praise for their performance. Writer Barbara Newman commented: “Memorable bits of structural ingenuity stood out: in ‘The Place’, a tight cluster of dancers from Stockport Grammar School unfurled unexpectedly into a long, diagonal chain of linked bodies.”

Maggie Foyer, writing for SeeingDance, added: “Stockport Grammar School presented ‘The Place’ which cleverly wove the Suffragettes, LS Lowry, the Industrial Revolution and Stockport Viaduct into a sophisticated dance work. They are one of England’s more fortunate schools that has dance on the curriculum, and it showed in the dancers’ confidence and ability.”

You can watch the full performance on our YouTube channel. Here is a trailer about their piece:
