Stockport Grammar School is committed to minimising our environmental impact and offering our pupils, their parents and everyone who visits the school a safe and healthy space.

Therefore, we were absolutely thrilled that our Eco-Committee have been successful in maintaining their Eco Schools Green Flag Award with distinction!

On reviewing our application, the Eco Schools Team noted that we have “such a representative Eco-Committee” showing our “school’s excellent commitment to both the programme and the eco-cause” and they praised our “eager, enthusiastic volunteers”.

The review also highlighted the support offered by members of staff, the range of indoor and outdoor activities, the minute taking of meetings which helps with “accountability, monitoring and evaluation” and the “carefully considered” Action Plan that “achieves maximum impact and raises awareness amongst their school community”.

Also praised was the “incredibly visual and engaging” eco-board that “promotes your work in a very attractive way”, as well as the “really smart and concise” Eco-Code with its “great message and its punchy nature which will definitely help it be processed by everyone passing by”.

Mrs Hannah Larkin, one of the Senior School teachers in charge of the Eco Schools Committee said: “We are very proud of our Eco-Committee achieving the 2023-2024 Eco Schools Green Flag with distinction. The Eco Schools Prefects were determined to achieved the award before they left for university.

“It has been fantastic to have pupils represented from every year of the school working together to raise awareness of environmental issue and making positive steps to improving the school’s eco credentials.

“The pupils’ creativity has been impressive: they have made bird feeders, Christmas decorations from old Christmas cards and wildflower seed packets. To win the award as a joint venture between the Junior School and Senior School has been a great experience. We look forward to building on the progress we have made.”
