Manchester inspires Lower Sixth artists

Lower Sixth Art students enjoyed fine weather as they ventured into Manchester to spend the day drawing and photographing in different locations.

The group started the day in Castlefield Basin surrounded by the imposing architecture associated with Manchester’s industrial past, before moving onto Spinningfields, where light reflects off the steel and glass offices.

They concluded the trip in the bustling heart of Chinatown.

To support their practical response, the group also spent some time exploring the art and fashion collections held in Manchester Art Gallery.

The opportunity to record from direct observation so early in the A Level course provides a sound footing from which pupils are subsequently able to make decisions on the direction to take their work when back in school.
