Prize Giving celebrates hard work of Juniors

Award winners with their trophies at the 2024 Junior School Prize Giving

Parents, pupils, and staff gathered in the Dining Hall to ring in the final event of the Junior School academic year – Prize Giving.

The event recognises all the hard work put in by the children, and offers a chance to say farewell to our Year 6 year group before they leave the Junior School.

Chair of Governors Mr Jonathan Lee welcomed everyone to the event before the Year 5 and 6 Choir performed ‘Child of Tomorrow’ by Lin Marsh.

The Choir recently returned from a tour to Blenheim and Oxford where their music, under Miss Micklethwaite’s guidance, wowed audiences.

Head of the Junior School Mr Matthew Copping then spoke before introducing the guest speaker, Stacey Copeland.

Stacey is an accomplished sportsperson and Commonwealth boxer. Having started her sporting career playing football for Stockport County, Tranmere Rovers and Doncaster Rovers Belles, Stacey soon began competing in boxing.

She became the first female British boxer to win a Commonwealth title and in her address, she spoke about adversity she has faced within sports, and offered advice to the pupils about never giving up on your dreams, and taking strength from your friends and family when you need it.

Following Stacey’s speech the prizes were handed out, including the year group awards.

The Head Boys and Girls also shared some amazing, and funny, memories of their time in the Junior School.

Once the presentations were over the Choir performed another song and prayers were led by Rev. Liz Leaver.

The Year 3-6 Orchestra concluded the evening, with parents and guardians invited into the Sixth Form Common Room for a drinks reception.
