Good Schools Guide
We are delighted that the Good Schools Guide hailed our “high quality teaching and learning”, “great extracurricular and sports programmes” and “lovely, safe environment” in their latest report.
A representative from the Good Schools Guide visited school last term and was very complimentary about what they saw. The Guide is a leading school review site that has evaluated over 1,400 schools across the country – both in the independent and state sectors.
The review provided a great overview of the Junior School – which has been evaluated independently from the Senior School for the first time.

On their tour, they were given an insight in to life at SGJS, and visited lessons including maths, English, languages and science.
Our site and facilities were praised, with the report stating that: “The school is spacious and centred around a beautiful calm open courtyard used for form time, science, DT and art lessons.”
On our tour we met lots of engaged young people, enthusiastically taking part in group learning which is a driving feature of teaching and learning here
A lovely, safe environment in which to learn and play
The strength of our music facilities was also commended, with the report stating that the subject is a real “strength”. Our Art and IT provisions were also praised, with the report stating that the subjects were “well provided for”.

There’s significant musical aspiration here, pupils have sung on tours to Oxford and Cambridge
Regular artists in residence give breadth to art delivery
The report was particularly enthusiastic about the strength of our co-curricular activities. Stockport Grammar Junior School currently offers more than 70 clubs taught at different age groups with the vast majority being at no additional cost to parents/guardians.

All our children are encouraged to take part in the school’s co-curricular activities which range from sport, yoga, and science to climbing, sewing and touch-typing.
A clear eye on high quality teaching and learning to support pupils’ academic development alongside great extracurricular and sports programmes
The report concluded “SGJS is a lovely school doing a good job” going on to say the school has “forward thinking leadership with a clear eye on high quality teaching and learning.”

Head of the Junior School, Mr Matthew Copping, said: “We were delighted to welcome the Good Schools Guide to the Junior School towards the end of last term. Their honest and positive report clearly reflects what we strive to achieve in the Junior School – supporting pupil’s academic achievement alongside providing great extra-curricular and sports programmes.”
