Stopfordian Parents’ Association
Stockport Grammar School is proud to have the committed support and assistance of the Stopfordian Parents’ Association (SPA) who organise fun activities and events for pupils and parents to enjoy whilst raising funds to enhance the children’s experience across the whole school.
Benefiting the school community
The SPA work tirelessly to provide opportunities for the school community to come together and enrich the experiences our pupils – their sons and daughters – encounter whilst at the school. Some of the initiatives and activities they hold include:
- Organising the ever-popular Christmas Fair, and printing and selling Christmas cards featuring the artwork of Junior School children
- Organising the well-attended annual Quiz Night where players enjoy the renowned cheeseboard
- Running stalls during Junior School Sports Day and organising Junior School discos.

Funding projects
One of the main aims of the association is to raise money for school enrichment projects and external charities.
Within the school environment these projects have included the purchase of musical instruments, items for the Library, kayaks and canoes, outdoor cricket nets, a branded school minibus, the clock on the wall outside the Biology block, a yellow and black picnic table, wooden benches and stage curtains and the a state-of-the-art lighting system for the Main Hall.

Getting involved
Parents of pupils across the whole school can get involved by joining the committee, attending meetings, organising events or becoming a class representative. By getting involved you can get a great insight into school life and have the opportunity to meet fellow parents.
The current board members are Robyn O’Donnell (Co-Chair), Michelle Knowles (Co-Chair), Sureeta Nayyar-Abassi (Vice-Chair, Communications), Jamie Bell (Treasurer) and Alexis Smith (Secretary). The Finance committee is comprised of Robyn O’Donnell, Jamie Bell, Alexis Smith, Lisa Lord, Sureeta Nayyar-Bassi, Melanie, Megan Mehra, Lois King, and James Kenney.

Class representatives
At least one parent from each class is encouraged to act as a class rep. The class reps act as a link between the SPA and the parents in the class and also as a point of contact between parents in the class. One of the main responsibilities of the class reps is to help to organise activities for the children, such as stalls at fairs, school discos, coffee mornings and charity fundraising events. If you would like to become a class rep or contact your child’s class rep, please email the SPA.
AGM and Parents’ Association Meetings
The SPA hold an Annual General Meeting (AGM) in the Governors’ Room every year. The date for the 2025 AGM was Wednesday 10th September.
Parents’ Association meetings, at which everybody is most welcome, give direct insight into school life, along with the opportunity to meet fellow parents. Heads from both the Junior and Senior Schools give outlined reports on recent events and future plans and the committee also report their plans, give details on the financial account and relay future diary dates.
