New Sports Pavilion FAQs

Following on from the successful planning permission application in 2024, we are delighted to announce that we intend to begin construction this summer on our new sports pavilion, reflecting our commitment to continuous improvement and excellence.

General Project Questions

Why is the school investing in a new Sports Pavilion and Gym?

This project reflects our commitment to continuous improvement and excellence. The new pavilion will provide state-of-the-art facilities that enrich every pupil’s experience, inspire ambition, and strengthen our community for generations to come.

What benefits will this bring to pupils beyond sport?

While the pavilion will be the home base for our breadth of sports, its flexible design will also support wellbeing programmes, fitness classes, school events, and community activities – making it a hub for all pupils and families.

When will construction start and finish?

Demolition of the old gym and pavilion is planned for July 2026, although there is likely to be some preparatory works from June. The build is planned to start in the Autumn Term. Completion is scheduled for Autumn 2027.

Will there be any disruption to school life during construction?

We will work closely with contractors to minimise disruption and to ensure pupil safety. Plans are in place to ensure that the building compound is kept separate from the pupil areas. Alternative arrangements for PE and sports will be in place throughout the build. School fixtures will continue as normal.

Where will sports and PE lessons take place while the old facility is demolished?

We will utilise existing outdoor and alternative indoor spaces and temporary indoor facilities to ensure continuity of our sports programme.

Usage

Is the pavilion only for sports, or will it be used for other activities?

The pavilion is designed as a versatile space. In addition to sports, it will host dance, wellbeing sessions, fitness classes, school events, and community activities.

Will non-sporty pupils benefit from the new facility?

Absolutely. The pavilion will support personal growth and wellbeing for every pupil, offering spaces for fitness, relaxation, and social activities beyond competitive sport.

Will the space be available for wellbeing programmes, school events, and community use?

Yes. The design includes flexible areas that can be adapted for a variety of purposes, strengthening our ties with the local community.

Community

Will parents or the local community have access to the facilities?

Parents will be able to use the facility to watch school fixtures: there will be a serving hatch to provide hot drinks and snacks.

Will the pavilion be available for hire for events?

This is under consideration as part of our community engagement strategy.

How will this strengthen the school’s ties with the community?

By offering a versatile space for shared use, we aim to create opportunities for collaboration and engagement beyond the school day.

Safety

What measures are in place to ensure pupil safety during construction?

We will work with contractors to implement strict safety protocols and minimise disruption to school life. We will keep you updated with these protocols as we get closer to the build.

Is the new building environmentally sustainable?

Yes. Sustainability has been a key consideration in the design and construction process.

Will the design include accessibility features for pupils with additional needs?

Absolutely. The pavilion will be fully accessible and inclusive and as we progress through the development of this new space, we will keep you informed.

We will keep you updated as plans progress and you can follow the Sports Pavilion Instagram account for more information. If you have any further questions, please email us at pavilion@stockportgrammar.co.uk.
