Making Moves selection success delights dancers
We are thrilled to announce that we have been successful with our application to take part in Sadler’s Wells’ Making Moves 2025-2026!
It is the second time that SGS has been chosen, and we are elated that we have been paired Sir Richard Alston CBE, a huge name in the world of contemporary dance!
Making Moves is a choreography and performance project for schools and youth dance companies across England, run by Sadler’s Wells and supported by Barclays.

It connects young people with the ideas of some of the world’s most exciting choreographers and aims to raise the profile of dance being created in school and youth settings. It also offers the chance to perform on one of Sadler’s Wells stages.
Sir Alston studied under Merce Cunningham and formed the UK’s first independent dance group, Strider, in 1972. He was resident choreographer and artistic director for Ballet Rambert for 12 years and later became artistic director at The Place, forming the Richard Alston Dance Company. Over his successful career he has also made pieces for the Royal Ballet, London Contemporary Dance Theatre, Royal Danish Ballet, Ballet Black and New York Theatre Ballet, amongst many others.

Dance Teacher Mrs Abi Downing said: “We are so pleased to have been successful with our application and can’t wait to take part in Making Moves again this year.
“Our pupils really enjoyed the experience last time and it promises to be an exciting and rewarding time for all of the pupils involved this year as well.”
“I am beyond excited that we have been paired up with Sir Richard Alston as the choreographer whose toolkit we will receive. I can’t really believe that I will get to take some masterclasses with him on the choreographers’ training weekend later this month!”
