Pupils in the Library

The Hallam Library is a welcoming study space where pupils and staff can access a wide range of books, magazines and digital resources.

A place to study

Through library inductions, pupils are equipped with the skills to navigate library resources and enhance their learning journey. Additional sessions support project work in the Lower School and HPQ (Higher Project Qualification) and EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) preparation in the Middle School and Sixth Form.

Our facilities enable pupils to study independently and collaboratively before and after school and during the lunch break.

Events and reading for pleasure

A range of activities take place across the school year to encourage reading for pleasure. These include author visits, themed class activities and supporting form time reading. Our various reading groups are involved in shadowing national book awards such as the Carnegie Medal, The Excelsior Award, and The Royal Society Young People’s Book Prize.

Pupil doing a Spotlight On talk in the Library

Pupils, staff and external speakers contribute to our talks’ programme; by shining a ‘Spotlight on…’ a diverse range of topics, our curious library users get to explore and build their knowledge.

The Library is open and staffed by the School Librarians between 8am and 5.30pm every weekday during term time. Pupil library assistants from different year groups make a valuable contribution to ensuring our library space is vibrant and relevant.
