GCSE Results 2025: Congratulations to our amazing Fifth Years
Well done to our Fifth Years on their fantastic GCSE results!
Head of Senior School Mrs Sarah Capewell said: “Congratulations to our pupils receiving their GCSE results today. It has not always been easy for this cohort of pupils: joining the school during the Covid pandemic meant that they have had to contend with all the challenges that that brought. However, they have shown such determination and courage to achieve impressive results across a broad range of subjects, learning important skills that will benefit them in the future. I look forward to seeing how they continue to develop in their Sixth Form studies.”

19% of grades are at 9, and over 58% are at 9, 8 and 7.

Gifted musician Clara Zelhof hit the right notes with her results as she achieved seven 9s and two 8s. Clara volunteers at Animal Club, took part in the Chemistry CREST Award and appears in lot of our concerts as she is part of numerous ensembles – including First Orchestra, String Orchestra, Wind Orchestra and Chorus. She praised the teachers for their support and is excited to study Biology, Chemistry and Music next year.

Athlete William Jones is looking forward to taking Biology, Chemistry, History and Mathematics at SGS Sixth Form after securing a super set of results.

Giulia Burns said she feels like she can “breathe again” now that she has earned six 9s, four 8s, one 6 and an A in her Higher Project Qualification. Whilst at school Giulia has completed her silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, taken part in dance and School Council and plays for the 1st Hockey Team. She hopes to study medicine at university and will go on to study Biology, Chemistry, Latin and Maths.
Nine GCSEs, including one 9, one 8 and four 7s, mean that quiz captain Arthur Maddison will be studying Classics, English and History during Sixth Form. He was happy that he got strong results in the subjects he is taking forward – such as his 9 in English and 8 in English Literature.

Talented athlete Chris Parikh is thrilled with his five 9s, three 8s, one 7 and an A in the Higher Project Qualification, and will be studying Biology, Economics and Geography in the Sixth Form. He noted that the French listening sessions and Head of English Mrs Cope’s help sessions really facilitated him getting these impressive results and said that the Battlefields trip and Mathematics trip to Disneyland Paris have been highlights of his time at the school.

Ella Merryweather said she “couldn’t believe” her results this morning. She has earned eight 9s, one 8, one 6 and an A in the Higher Project Qualification and is looking forward to starting her A Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Maths, and English in September. The 1st hockey player said she is “very proud” to have run the Latin Club alongside her friends. During her time at school Ella has also completed her Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and has taken part in multiple dance shows.

Classics, Drama and Maths await Thomas Harvey after he picked up nine GCSEs. Thomas played TJ in this year’s production of ‘Sister Act’ and is part of the Big Band and Percussion Ensemble. He thanked Head of Physics Mrs Fenton for her support in helping him attain a great result in the subject.

Alice Mills joined SGS in First Year and is “really happy” with her seven 9s, one 8 and one 7. Alice will be staying at SGS to study Biology, Chemistry, Economics and Psychology. During her time at school Alice has taken part in many dance shows and has completed her silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

The trip to Krakow was a highlight for William O’Neill and the experience emboldened his decision to take History – alongside Classics, Core Maths and Physics – at Sixth Form. The “happy” rugby player and cricketer picked up nine GCSEs and was particularly pleased with his 7 in German – a grade he thanked Head of Modern Foreign Languages Miss Gibson for as she spent time supporting him.
A future in engineering is on the horizon for Arthur Wolstenholme after he earned seven 9s, two 8s and one 7 at GCSE. Arthur will remain at SGS to study Chemistry, Design Technology, Maths and Physics at A Level. During his time at school Arthur has enjoyed taking part in sports such as cricket and rugby.

Tennis player Thomas Stanton aced his GCSEs, smashing it with six 9s and three 8s! He credited Mathematics Teacher Miss Mills’ ability to make the subject interesting for his 9 in the subject, and he will be studying that subject alongside English Literature, French and Physics in Sixth Form.
Hockey player Eleanor Jones achieved two 9s, six 8s and one 6 in her GCSEs. Psychology, PE and Biology await her at A Level. She said she was “thrilled” with her results and noted that her revision paid off.

Rugby player Robert Jack, who joined Stockport Grammar in Nursery, racked up two 9s, four 8s, and three 7s and he will complete the entire SGS journey by studying Design Technology, Economics and Politics at Sixth Form. He was “surprised” with his 9 in Food and Nutrition and really enjoyed the trip the rugby team took to Portugal.
George Mason can breathe a sigh of relief after achieving one 9, six 7s, one 6 and one 5 in his GCSEs. Fresh from his run as Curtis in the school production of ‘Sister Act’, George hopes to study Computer Science, Drama and Psychology at A Level with a view of studying Acting or Computer Science at university.

Gifted heptathlete Molly Mills was “really happy” with her results – especially her grades in Biology, Chemistry and English. At Sixth Form she hopes to study Drama, Psychology and PE after her two 8s, four 7s and two 6s.
Dancer Phoebe Fox will be studying Classics, Geography and English in September. Phoebe achieved seven 9s, two 8s and an A in her Higher Project Qualification. She said the wait for her results felt “too long” but is happy now she has received them.

Harriet Hanger will complete the whole SGS educational journey by studying Biology, Chemistry and PE in Sixth Form after joining in Nursery. Her nine GCSEs includes two 8s and three 7s – one of the 8s was in English, and she thanked English Teacher Mrs Roberts for her help in getting this grade. The netball player said that the sports trips to Loughborough and Gibraltar have been highlights of her time at school so far.

Keen climber Henry Wong said he was “relieved” after receiving results that included five 8s and one 7. He hopes to study Maths, Music and Physics at A Level and is excited to continue participation in the Climbing Club.
Art, Biology and Chemistry await Emily Flint at A Level following her results of two 9s, six 8s and one 7. After joining SGS in First Year, Emily has been a keen sports player and has enjoyed taking part in netball and tennis.

Benji Miller was thrilled that he “got what he wanted” after bagging a perfect set of results – ten 9s! Benji joined Stockport Grammar in Year 2 and classed the Mathematics trip Disneyland Paris and one of the main highlights of his 10 years at SGS. He was delighted with his Further Maths grade – crediting it to the amount of practice papers he completed – and took part in the Chemistry CREST Award and utilised the school’s climbing wall in his spare time.

Keen reader Helen Boys, who was part of the school’s Book Club, brought the SGS chapter of her life story to a close with an amazing 9 in English Literature! It was one of eight grades, including 8s in Geography and Religious Studies, that she takes away with her as she embarks on the next stage of her educational journey.
Dancer Jess Wiggetts was pleased with results that included one 9, two 8s and four 7s. Jess has taken part in many dance shows and workshops since she started at school in First Year, she hopes to study English, Spanish and Dance at A Level.

Rayaan Ullah praised the amount of co-curricular clubs that are on offer at SGS. The budding engineer, who has been at Stockport Grammar since Year 3, picked up three 9s and six 8s and really enjoyed Colding Club and taking part in the school’s Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.

Rohan Sarupani hopes to study medicine at university, and he moves on from SGS with a strong set of results – especially in Mathematics and Chemistry. The Timperley Cricket Club player, who took part in the school’s Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, praised the school’s facilities and “caring and supportive” teachers.

One 9, five 8s, two 7s and one 6 awaited rugby player Frederick McEwen as he opened his GCSE results. He said that his five years at SGS went “faster than he thought” and he looks back to the “very enjoyable” sports trip to Portugal and the opportunity to make really good friends as his highlights of his time at Stockport Grammar. During his time here he also took part in the school’s Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme and appeared in the production of ‘Teechers’.

Viola Carter-Philips was pleased with her seven 9s and two 8s and will be leaving SGS to study Biology, Chemistry, English and Maths at A Level. A keen netball player, Viola has completed her silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award whilst at SGS.

Connie Sibthorpe joined SGS in Year 2 and leaves after 10 years with nine GCSEs, including 8s in English Literature and French. One of the highlights of her time at school was the French Exchange, so it is no surprise that she attained such a strong result in that subject!
The Drama trip to London earlier this year was one of the highlights for netball player Lexis Whittaker who completes her time at SGS after seven years with nine GCSEs after joining in Year 5.

Charlie Morley is looking forward to his next step as he leaves SGS having earned four 9s, two 8s, one 7 and two 6s. He will study English, Geography and History at A Level.

Umair Salahuddin performed in the productions of ‘Sister Act’, ‘Cinderella’ and ‘Teechers’ during the past few years. He is pleased with his three 9s, three 8s, one 7 and two 6s and enjoyed the wide range of clubs on offer, including Chess Club, Criminology Club, tennis and badminton.

Orlagh Bentley is moving on from SGS after joining in Nursery. She was happy that the amount of revision she did for Business paid off and praised the netball and sports provision at the school.
