The grand surroundings of the Stockport Plaza played host to the 2023 Senior School Speech Day as the school community came together to celebrate a year of success at SGS.

The 2023 edition of ‘Like, Literary’, the school’s annual Literary magazine, has been published and, this year, the publication looks at the idea of literature as a healing force.

Issue 8 of the ‘SGS Historian’, a magazine created by Sixth Form students and History staff, is now available to read.

SGS dancers embraced the opportunity to share the pieces they have been working on in their dance clubs since Easter at the Summer Showcase.

Twenty Lower Sixth students headed to London on an exciting trip that saw them visit the Houses of Parliament and the Supreme Court. For the first time the trip included a cohort of A-level Politics students, alongside prospective undergraduate social scientists eager to learn more about the legal and political workings of our system.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Stockport Grammar School’s Bursary Golf Day, in association with Vernon Building Society, was blessed with stunning blue skies, warm weather and a course in fantastic condition.

Lower Sixth students learnt more about the opportunities available to them after they leave SGS at this year’s hugely informative two-day Higher Education conference.

Sixty historians enjoyed an action-packed tour of New York, Philadelphia and Washington DC as part of their studies.

The excitement was palpable as Upper Sixth students held a number of Leavers’ events as they start their study leave and get ready for life beyond SGS.

The talent of the school’s musicians shone bright as they entertained a delighted Dining Hall audience at the Summer Concert.

The Summer 2023 edition of the school’s termly magazine, Taking Stock, is now available to download and read from the Magazines and Publications section of the school website.

A multi-departmental production was staged in the Hallam Hall as audiences stepped back in time to Ancient Greece to watch performances of ‘Dido and Aeneas’.

In recent weeks, Upper Sixth students have continued to receive news of exciting opportunities that await them once their A-level examinations have been successfully tackled and they become members of our Old Stopfordian Community. This includes offers from leading UK universities, including three offers from Oxford and Cambridge.

On Friday 17th March, the SGS community came together to mark Founder’s Day.
