A Level Results: Congratulations to the Class of 2025!

Congratulations to our Upper Sixth who collected their A Level results this morning. We are so proud of you!

Head of Senior School, Mrs Sarah Capewell said: “I am immensely proud of the results that our pupils have received this summer. Through their resilience, courage and character, they have achieved superb outcomes, balancing their academic work with a range of wider opportunities available to them at SGS.

“They leave us not just with good grades, but with the confidence and sense of purpose to make a difference in the world. I want to thank all of the staff, who have supported our pupils and ensured that they are not just ready for their next steps after they leave us, but beyond ready.”

75% of grades are A* to B, 41% are A* and A, there was a 100% pass rate, and 92% are A* to C.

After joining in Nursery, Head of School Sachin Gholkar completes his Stockport Grammar journey with four superb A Level grades – an A* in Mathematics, and As in Design Technology, Further Maths and Physics. The keen musician, who will be studying General Engineering at Durham University, was part of a host of ensembles and spoke with warmth and gratitude about his time at SGS at this year’s Speech Day. He praised Head of Physics Mrs Fenton for her unwavering support, especially when it came to completing his university application.

Head of School May Nassar will be heading to Newcastle University to study Archaeology after securing an A in Politics, a B in Classics and a C in Biology. Having been at SGS since First Year, May has been an active member of the SGS community and has taken part in music, hockey, lighting and sound, and was recently Sister Mary Patrick in our production of ‘Sister Act’.

Deputy Head of School and Arden House Captain Enoch Ajayi is “excited” and “ready to start” his Solicitor Apprenticeship at DWF Law LLP after picking up an A in Religious Studies, Bs in English Literature and Psychology and a C in Extended Project Qualification. He enjoyed the atmosphere and spending time in the Sixth Form Centre with his friends and praised Head of English Mrs Cope for her encouragement. He now can’t wait to get some practical experience with his apprenticeship.

A gap year awaits Anjali Abraham who will be taking some time to travel before she begins her Medicine degree at the University of Liverpool. She attained four As in Chemistry, Design Technology, Mathematics and Physics During her time at school Anjali has performed in dance shows, has been in Jazz Band and Wind Orchestra and recently played the lead role of Deloris Van Cartier in the school production of ‘Sister Act’. Anjali is looking forward to visiting Switzerland and Italy on her travels.

Edward Griffiths was “over the moon” after earning three A*s in English Literature, Mathematics and Extended Project Qualification and two As in Classics and Politics. He will be heading to the University of Oxford to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics. During his time at school Edward has taken part in multiple school productions, including the Classics play ‘Birds’ and has been an active member of our Model United Nations team. Edward gave a ‘big thanks’ to his teachers for their support during his time at school.

Charity Prefect Penny Horsford was “really pleased” and “shocked” with her three A*s in English Literature, Extended Project Qualification and Psychology and an A in History. Penny, who is taking a gap year, highlighted her participation in the dance shows as a highlight of her time at SGS and praised all of her teachers, especially those in the English and Psychology Departments, for all of their help.

Rugby and Nicholson House Captain Ben Lavender had an air of calm as he opened his results. His A in Design and Technology and Bs in PE and Psychology mean that he will be studying Sport and Exercise Sciences at Hartpury University. The keen swimmer has picked up numerous Cheshire Cups with Stockport Rugby Club and was picked for the North of England Under 18 squad. Ben praised Head of Psychology Mr Buxton-Cope and Head of Design and Technology Mrs Crosby for their support and is “well excited” to become part of the Old Stopfordian community now that he has completed 15 years at Stockport Grammar after joining in Nursery.

There’s no rest for Nathan Hopley who will be heading to the USA on Sunday after securing a place at King University in Tennessee. Golfer for Cheshire County, Nathan said he was “very happy” with his two Bs in Business and Economics and a C in PE. Having started at SGS in Nursery Nathan revealed he is thankful for his time spent at school but is excited for the next step.

Isabella Taylor-Stokes is also off to America as she takes up a Golf Scholarship at East Carolina University.

Bea Downing is heading to the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama to study Costume Design after earning an A* in Textiles, an A in Chemistry and a B in Biology. During her time at school Bea has written for the Like, Lit Mag, has been a First Year Friend, has taken part in various choirs and most recently designed and made costumes for our school dance show. She said she is ‘very excited’ to head down to London to study.

1st XI footballer Daniel Church will head to Newcastle University to study Business, Accounting and Finance as part of PWC’s Flying Start programme. The midfielder earned an A in Economics and Bs in Business and History.

Magda Zelazny said she “can’t believe” her grades of two A*s in Biology and Psychology and an A in Chemistry which has secured her a place to study Medicine at the Newcastle University. She wanted to give thanks to teachers Mrs Larkin and Mr Heyes for their support during her exams.

Three A*s in Business, Classics and Politics and an A in History sees Tom Farrelly head to the University of Sheffield to study Politics, Philosophy and Economics. The School Council Prefect, who is a keen sportsman, has enjoyed the whole SGS experience and namechecked Head of History Mr Leng and Business and Economics Teacher Mr Phillips as teachers who clearly love their subject and are really engaging.

A gap year featuring inter-railing and studying for a Biology A Level awaits Eris Elsby following A*s in History and Psychology and an A in English Literature. Eris enjoyed getting involved in the school productions, including the wonderful performance of ‘Cinderella’, and lauded the Psychology teachers and Head of History Mr Leng for their excellent support.

Bethany Burton will be studying English at the University of Nottingham after picking up two A*s in English Literature and Extended Project Qualification and As in Classics and Psychology. The Prefect was “very happy” with her results, especially with the “unexpected” English Literature grade, and noted that it will feel “weird” leaving SGS after 11 years at the school.

Rugby player Jack Rafter is “pleased” with his As in Mathematics and Physics and B in Further Maths, grades that will see him move on to the University of Sheffield to study Aerospace Engineering. Collecting his A Level results brings an end to Jack’s 15 years at the school. One of his main highlights was the sports tour to Spain and he is looking forward to the “big change” that awaits him at university.

An A* in Physics and As in Chemistry, Further Maths and Mathematics mean that Dimitrios Dimopoulos will be reading Physics at UCL (University College London). The powerlifter was pleased that his “hard work paid off” and noted that the after-school help sessions really helped him achieve these excellent results.

Zack Waterhouse will be moving across the country to study Chinese Studies (with Year Abroad) at Durham University after getting Bs in Business, Classics and Drama and a C in English Literature. Zack played for the Senior football squads and was part of the SGS golf team that won the Cheshire Schools Golf Competition two years in a row. He wanted to thank Business and Economics Teacher Mr Brown for his “enthusiastic” and “passionate” teaching.
