Lifetime memories made on musical weekend in Cambridge
41 members of the Year 5 and 6 Choir, accompanied by six members of staff, enjoyed an exciting, fun-packed, and extended musical weekend in Cambridge.

En route to the city, the travelling group stopped off at Peterborough Cathedral where the young singers were treated to a tour of the incredible building where they learnt about its history and architecture. They also had an arch-building lesson, tried their hand at quill writing, and a took part in a special RE session in preparation for their visit to Cambridge.

In the evening everyone attended Evensong at King’s College and listened to its famous Men and Boys Choir.

Lots of social time was enjoyed and the children ate out at various places, including a lovely dinner at Market House restaurant. Shopping and bowling trips were also on the agenda.

Over the weekend the children delivered two wonderful concerts – one in Trinity College Chapel and the other in the historic church of Saint Botolph.

The singers performed a variety of sacred and secular choral music, and instrumental solos. Both concerts were very well attended by friends, family and the general public – including many families who had travelled south to hear their children from Stockport. The choir sang and played absolutely beautifully, making us all very proud!

Other musical treats included attending the Eucharist service at St John’s College to hear the Chapel Choir of mixed voices, visiting Trinity College on Trinity Sunday to hear its grammy award-winning choir sing from the towers across Great Court, and later at Evensong in Trinity Chapel.

The busy weekend was concluded by listening to Trinity Choir once more at The Backs, who were singing from punts on the River Cam.

Miss Anastasia Micklethwaite, the Junior School’s Head of Music, said: “We all had a fabulous time, returning a little tired, but with memories that will last a lifetime. Bravi tutti!”
