Great British Woodworker Challenge inspires innovative designs
Lower Sixth Design and Technology (DT) pupils spent a full day in the workshop as they took part in the Great British Woodworker Challenge.
The aim of the competition was to design and manufacture a product that would help protect a species of wildlife.

This saw the creation of homes for birds, mice, hedgehogs, bats, and bees.
Pupils worked independently to use the tools, machinery, and equipment.

They worked safely and ensured their final pieces were accurate, aesthetic and functional to be used in UK gardens.
The judges were very impressed with the outcomes and Head of DT Mrs Hayley Crosby commented: “This competition gives pupils such freedom to design and manufacture their own outcome.

“They responded well to working so independently and created designs that were very impressive!”
