The Main Hall was filled with pride, celebration and plenty of smiles as pupils, parents and staff gathered for the Junior School’s annual Prize Giving ceremony.

The special event marked the culmination of another fantastic year, recognising the remarkable achievements, hard work and determination of pupils across the Junior School while also providing a fitting farewell to the Year 6 pupils as they prepare for the next stage of their educational journey.

Chair of the Governing Body, Mr Paul Brearley, opened proceedings with a warm welcome before the Year 5 and 6 Choir delivered a stunning performance of ‘For The Beauty Of The Earth’ by Susan Biggs, arranged by Jay Althouse. Fresh from their successful tour of Blenheim Palace and Oxford, the choir once again demonstrated the musical excellence that has earned them praise wherever they perform.

Head Mr Matthew Copping reflected on a year packed with success and memorable experiences before wishing the departing Year 6 pupils every success for the future. He then introduced guest speaker Chris Conlan (OS 1993), founder of a creative agency, part-time explorer and proud Old Stopfordian.

Drawing on the school’s values of courage, community and curiosity, Chris delivered an inspiring address about how his time at Stockport Grammar ignited a passion for adventure and the outdoors that would go on to shape both his personal life and career. His stories encouraged pupils to embrace opportunities, remain curious and never be afraid to step outside their comfort zones.

The audience was then treated to a lively performance by the Orchestra, who performed Sarah Watts’ ‘Double Selection from Razzamajazz’, before Chris returned to the stage to present the prizes.

A wide range of awards celebrated excellence across academic subjects, music, sport and wider school life, alongside year group prizes and several prestigious honours, including the Old Stopfordians’ Award, Alan Baxendale Cup, Jeremy Hough Cup and Richard Reeman Cup.

Adding a personal touch to the evening, the Head Boys and Girls from each term shared some of their favourite memories from the year. Their reflections, filled with humour and heartfelt appreciation, captured the spirit of the Junior School and the friendships that have been formed along the way.

The ceremony concluded on a high note with two uplifting musical performances. The Year 5 and 6 Choir first entertained the audience with the traditional Canadian folk song ‘Swinging Along’, before being joined by the entire Year 6 cohort for a moving rendition of ‘Sing’ by Gary Barlow and Andrew Lloyd Webber, arranged by Ed Lojeski.

It was a fitting finale to an evening that celebrated achievement, community and the bright futures that lie ahead for our pupils.

A special thank you goes to the Stopfordian Parents’ Association, whose generous support funded the prize books presented to this year’s award winners.
