Annual DofE Presentation Evening celebrates outstanding achievements

Pupils taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) demonstrated the school values of courage, community, and curiosity as they completed their Bronze, Silver and Gold activities – and their hard work was recognised at the 19th annual Presentation Evening.

Guests took their seats in the Main Hall after a welcome reception in the Sixth Form Common Room.

Compere David Kent then kicked proceedings off before two videos were played to the audience.

The first video showcased all of the activities that pupils took part in for physical, skill, volunteering, expedition, and residential sections.

The second featured four Gold Award pupils delivering an excellent talk on why Bronze and Silver pupils should continue with their DofE Award. They also shared their experiences from the last four years of taking part in the Award.

This year’s special guest was Old Stop George Chatterton (OS 2017). The former Head Boy and 1st XV rugby captain gave a motivating speech about how completing his DofE Award, and his time at SGS, helped to shape his future career and gave him the confidence to achieve his goals.

Upon completion of George’s talk, it was time to present the certificates and hand out the special awards.

To conclude the wonderful evening, Miss Laura Turner, the school’s DofE Co-ordinator, reflected on the amazing achievements of the pupils, including the great work of the 145 pupils who finished their Bronze Award over the last year.
