Grace celebrates Albert Johnston Travel Award success
Sixth Form student Grace Lorimer is looking forward to her trip to Spain after being chosen as the winner of this year’s Albert Johnston Travel Award.
Grace’s presentation ‘Following the Spanish Impressionists’ wowed this year’s judges and focused on three influential artists: Joaquín Sorolla, Ignacio Pinazo Camarlench and Alberto Pla y Rubio.
Already interested in Art History, Grace centred her presentation around the Valencia region in Spain, where all three artists were from.
“France is the home of the Impressionist Movement, but Valencia is actually an unknown hub” said Grace. “I am really looking forward to exploring the area that inspired so many great artists.
“I think it will be interesting to be able to see the landscapes and areas that inspired their paintings, and to see how much has changed.”
Grace revealed she was also excited to travel before she heads off to university.
“Solo travel is always something I have wanted to do which is what gave me the push to apply for the award.”
Throughout her time at school, Grace has become a Climbing Captain, Senior Prefect and Charities Prefect and has helped to organise the Christmas Fair, and multiple collections for supported charities.

This year’s judging panel was the Bursar Joanne Clague, Head of Sixth Form David Stone, former governor Chris Muscutt, former archivist Stuart Helm (OS 1964), Old Stopfordians Chris Watson (OS 1974) and Oliver Hopwood (OS 2003), and award organiser and Psychology Teacher Hannah Larkin.
Mrs Larkin said: “The pupil’s proposals were incredibly strong this year and the panel was “blown away” with the level of detail that had gone into planning the trips and the pupil’s confidence when asked challenging questions about their planned itinerary. I am sure that Grace will have a fabulous time and that the experience will be beneficial to her undergraduate university studies.”
