Hallam Library marks 20th anniversary

Head Mrs Sarah Capewell cuts a cake to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Hallam Library

The Hallam Library was officially opened on 7th December 2005 by HRH Duke of Gloucester and, as it approached its 20th anniversary, Library staff invited pupils, teachers and support staff to share in the celebration.

Second Year artists produced some fantastic designs for tote bags and bookmarks, and a time capsule was prepared. The box, which is to be opened in 2045, contained books selected by pupils, along with winning book reviews and a log book documenting the many exciting activities that have taken place during 2025.

Form competitions have included a ‘Shelfie’ competition, a ’20 Book Challenge’ and a ‘Guess the Extract’ competition where the Head and other teachers read an extract from a popular book from the last 20 years.

On Monday 8th December a big crowd made their way to the Library at lunchtime for a House Quiz – won by Vernon – and to share some birthday cake!

Another part of the celebration saw Mrs Fenton, Mrs Johnson and Mrs Cope reflect on the opening of the Library on its current site – watch the video here.
