Juniors embrace independence and adventure on residentials

Year 6 pupils canoeing during their residential

Pupils from Years 3 to 6 had a fantastic time on their residentials as they participated in a wide range of activities and embraced the opportunity to become more independent.

Year 3

Year 3 pupils enjoyed a one night residential at the Anderton Centre.

They challenged themselves with a host of fun activities including rafting, archery and a very high tree climb.

In the evening, they created wild art before learning how to start a campfire. They then toasted marshmallows and enjoyed the view of the lake.

Year 4

Year 4’s residential to Kingswood was an unforgettable adventure! From the moment they arrived, the children were immersed in a range of outdoor challenges designed to build essential life skills such as communication, problem-solving, leadership, resilience, independence, and teamwork.

Activities like nightline, climbing and abseiling encouraged students to step outside their comfort zones, work as a team and support one another in overcoming fears and achieving personal goals.

The Kingswood residential has left a lasting impression on Year 4 children, equipping them with the confidence, resilience and skills that will serve them well in the classroom and beyond.

Year 5

Castleton’s Hollowford Centre was the location for Year 5’s fantastic residential.

The sun was shining as they began their first activities of orienteering and problem solving. The teams quickly learned to work together and listen to the advice of their group leader.

For the remainder of their time, each group had the opportunity to do caving, raft building, zip-wire, bouldering, high ropes and a walk up to Mam Tor.

The children threw themselves into everything they did with energy, excitement, and a sense of adventure.

Year 6

Year 6 participated in a wide range of fun and entertaining activities, including canoeing and hiking, on their residential to Tower Wood in the Lake District.

Pupils Jasper H-S and Oscar S reflected on the experience: “Challenges varied throughout the trip, such as facing your worst fears or pushing your limits to get to the top of the climbing wall.

“We all learnt about togetherness in our groups as we had to work together to complete the activities – like in canoeing where we all had to work together to beat the other team in a race by communicating when to paddle or not, or in orienteering where we had to work in pairs to find out where certain places were in Tower Wood.

“We both loved all of the water tasks as it was very nice to look around at the scenery when you were in the middle of the lake. At the end of each water-based activity, you were also allowed to jump in at the dock!

“Every single Year 6 enjoyed this trip – it was one of the most exciting trips we have been on, it was amazing!”
