Lifetime memories created on Year 5 and 6 ski trip

Pupils on the slopes during the 2025 Year 5 and 6 ski trip

A group of Year 5 and 6 pupils had an amazing time on the slopes of the Italian town of Aprica as they embarked on a skiing trip.

The first day was spent travelling, getting their outfits and equipment sorted, and settling into their new home for the week.

After a much needed rest, the girls and boys were up early for day one of lessons. Each pupil was assessed by instructors, before being grouped accordingly into beginner, intermediate and advanced skiers.

Over the next few days the beginner group became more accustomed to being on the snow and made phenomenal progress – their confidence soaring as they descended the slopes.

The intermediate group enjoyed developing their skills on the mountain whilst the advanced skiers had a blast on the black runs.

The skiers took part in a mixture of slalom races and icy reds and they also tried their hand at bum-boarding and sledging.

An impressive 25 hours of skiing was manged throughout the week and there was the added bonus of no injuries and plenty of smiles!

When they were not on the slopes the children were kept very busy. Intense games of UNO were played, tunes were belted out on the karaoke machine, and some interesting shapes were pulled at the disco!

To keep them fuelled during the week, the pupils tucked into tasty crepes and hot chocolate, devoured slices of pizza and tasted 11 varieties of pasta!

The final evening of the trip saw the awards ceremony take place as pupils were recognised for a range of achievements over the week.

With the pupils safely back in Cheshire, via a stop-off in Germany, pupils excitedly regaled their parents with stories from an unforgettable week.

Year 6 pupil Sam C said: “I had lots of fun on the ski trip. My favourite moment was seeing the views from the top of the mountain. The hotel we stayed in was really nice and the food was amazing,” whilst Charlotte C commented: “The ski trip was the best trip I have ever been on! The mountains were amazing, and I really improved. My highlight was either doing the night activities or watching Mr Harris ski into a fence – and take it out!”

Year 5 Maximus W added: “After this trip I became a much more experienced skier and learnt lots of different moves to help me improve my ability on the slopes. Every night we had a fun activity to do such as sledging and karaoke. I really liked the time I got to spend with my friends away from school and I made lots of new memories that I will be able to keep with me forever. It was brilliant!”

Libbi W remarked: “The trip was so fun and a memory I will remember forever. Although I fell over a lot, I improved every second. I really enjoyed the activities at night and on one of the days we had hot chocolate and pancakes, which were delicious. The ski trip was one of the best weeks of my life and I will never forget it!”

Trip organiser and Head of Junior School PE and Games Mr Martin Cooke concluded: “Pupils and staff had a fantastic week! The weather, snow conditions, friendly ski instructors and pasta – for what seemed like every meal – meant everyone had great fun.

“The pupils were a credit to school on the slopes, in around the town and whilst travelling. The progress they made in ski school was truly impressive – particularly for those who had never been abroad to ski previously. Thanks to Halsbury Travel for providing a top itinerary and thanks to the staff for their hard work and efforts.”
