Prize Giving brings curtain down on an inspirational Junior School year
The Junior School community made their way to the Main Hall for the final event of an inspiring academic year – Prize Giving.
Pupils have expertly demonstrated the school’s values of enthusiasm, resilience, curiosity, togetherness and respect throughout the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms, and this special event recognised the hard work put in by the children, as well as offering a chance to say farewell to our Year 6 year group before they leave the Junior School.

Chair of the Governing Body, Mrs Hazel Tritschler, kicked proceedings off with a warm welcome to the parents, pupils and staff before the Year 5 and 6 Choir beautifully sang ‘No Wars Will Stop Us Singing’ by Debbie Wiseman.
The Choir recently returned from a tour to Cambridge where their music, under Miss Micklethwaite’s guidance, wowed audiences.

Head Mr Matthew Copping delivered a wonderful speech where he talked about community, charity and moving on.

Upon the conclusion of his speech, Mr Copping introduced the guest speaker, poet Matt Goodfellow.

When his music career failed to take off, Matt became a primary school teacher and his songs became poems. During his address Matt read excerpts from his book ‘The Final Year’. His speech really engaged the children with both humour and opportunity for reflection.

Following Matt’s speech the prizes were handed out. Prizes covered a wide range of subjects, sports and musical genres, as well as year group awards.

The Old Stopfordians’ Award, Alan Baxendale Cup, Jeremy Hough Cup and Richard Reeman Cup were also given out.

The Head Boys and Girls from all three terms shared some amazing, and funny, memories of their time in the Junior School before the Year 5 and 6 Choir took to the stage again to sing John Rutter’s ‘A Flower Remembered’.

After the school’s Chaplin Rev. Liz Leaver led prayers, the Choir and Orchestra concluded the evening with ‘Simple Gifts’, a piece arranged by Donald Moore and adapted by Miss Micklethwaite.

Thank you to the Stopfordian Parents’ Association for funding the purchase of the books that were given out as prizes.
