Records broken at super Senior Sports afternoon

The individual winners from the 2025 Senior Sports Afternoon

Fifth Year and Sixth Form students proudly and enthusiastically represented their respective House at this year’s Senior Sports afternoon.

The action got underway in the Sports Hall with the high jump events. Both the girls’ and boys’ events were closely fought, and it was great to see the competitors being cheered on by a big crowd.

The athletes then moved outside to take part in the other field events – shot put, discus, javelin, long jump and triple jump.

The sun was shining as the students flexed their muscles with the aim to throw and jump the furthest.

There were a host of excellent performances, most notably by Upper Sixth student Ben Lavender who broke the boys’ shot put record. Ben launched the shot 14.10m, beating the previous record of 13.50m that was set in 2022.

Attention then turned to the track where runners competed in a number of races including 100m, 800m, 1,500m and the 4x100m relay.

There were a lot of close finishes as the athletes pushed each other to cross the finish line first, and it was a thrill to see another record being broken. Fifth Year Zach Rose broke the record for the boys’ 1500m – a record that had stood for 36 years! Zach crossed the line in 4.23m – the 1989 record was 4.27m.

Once all of the action was over it was time to announce the Victor Ludorum and Victrix Ludorum, as well as the House positions.

The boys’ Victor Ludorum was jointly won by Nicholson’s Ben Lavender and Vernon’s Will Jones whilst the girls’ Victrix Ludorum was Nicholson’s Thiana Quinn.

When the boys’ and girls’ totals were added it was Arden (267) who topped the standings. Vernon (236) pipped Warren (235) to second and Nicholson (200) came fourth.
