Year 2 pupils embrace exploring

Year 2 pupils pose for a photo in their wonderful outfits during Explorers Day

Children in Year 2 looked amazing in an array of different outfits as they spent a day becoming explorers!

The day, which builds upon work they have been doing in English lessons, began with pupils completing activities in the classroom.

The girls and boys enjoyed the challenge of building a den to shelter a LEGO man and they loved getting creative making clay fossils.

They also embraced the task of moving a bee bot around a map and there was lots of excited chatter as they discussed what an explorer would pack in their rucksack – an activity linked to their maths and money work.

Some pupils even braved the cold as they took part in an ice picking activity.

After the morning break the children ventured outside. In the forest area behind the Nursery building, the youngsters had to work together as they embarked on a scavenger hunt.

Outside the main Junior School building, SGS’s Outdoor Education Co-ordinator Mr Adam Hughes set the pupils an orienteering challenge.

After lunch the explorers moved to the Sports Hall where they tackled the climbing wall and completed a role game using compass directions.

Later in the afternoon they enjoyed some time in the school’s pool with explorers themed swimming and, back in the classroom, there was great excitement as the dens created in the morning were tested with wind and rain simulators.
