History students attend moving Holocaust talk

Dr Neomie Lopian talking to GCSE History pupils in the Main Hall about the Holocaust

Dr Noemie Lopian, the daughter of Holocaust survivors Ernst and Renee Bornstein, visited Stockport Grammar to share her family’s poignant story and the broader lessons of the Holocaust.

Her visit aimed to educate students about the importance of remembering the past to prevent future atrocities.

Dr Lopian emphasised the relevance of the Holocaust in today’s world, highlighting the dangers of extremism and the need for vigilance against hatred and intolerance.

During her talk, Dr Lopian recounted her parents’ experiences during the Holocaust, providing a personal and emotional connection to the historical events.

She stressed the importance of dialogue and understanding, encouraging students to engage with people from different backgrounds and beliefs. This, she believes, is crucial in fostering a more inclusive and compassionate society.

Dr Lopian’s visit was part of the school’s ongoing efforts to promote Holocaust education and awareness.

The IGCSE History students were deeply moved by her story and will be able to understand the importance of her story further when they move onto learning about persecution in Nazi Germany later this term.

The event concluded with a Q&A session, where students had the opportunity to ask Dr Lopian questions and reflect on the lessons learned from her powerful presentation.
