London trip enhances creative skills of Sixth Form artists

Sixth Form students spent a day visiting London’s museums and art galleries as part of their A Level Art and Design course.

The group spent the first part of the day exploring the vast collection of art, artefacts and design at the V&A before separating into two smaller groups.

Those studying art made their way to Tate Britain, while those studying textiles design made their way to Liberty and the shops around New Bond Street and Saville Row where they were able to explore the fashion and textiles collections on show.

Both groups reconvened later in the afternoon at The National Portrait Gallery where Colin Davidson’s large-scale expressive portraits were a particular highlight.

The opportunity to see real work is invaluable in helping pupils develop an understanding of technique and scale, with the information gathered used to inform the development of their own work back in school.

The group ended the day at Pizza Express before making the journey back to Stockport.
