On Friday 21st March Senior School pupils and staff were joined by governors, Old Stopfordians and the Deputy Lieutenant at St George’s Church for the annual service giving thanks for the foundation of the school in 1487 by Sir Edmond Shaa.

The service opened and concluded with Upper Sixth student Nathan Monk playing the organ whilst Chamber Choir and Chorus sang two lovely pieces – ‘O Thou, The Central Orb’ and ‘Anthem: Excerpts From Vivaldi’s Magnificat’ respectively.

The school’s Chaplain Rev Liz Leaver led the service whilst retiring staff member Mrs Helen Lawson read the Bidding Oration.

Lessons were then read by the Chair of the Governing Body Mrs Hazel Tritschler and Old Stopfordian President Mrs Krishanthi Carfrae.

The Vicar of St George’s Church delivered her address before Head Mrs Sarah Capewell led prayers.

Upon the conclusion of the service, legators and donors gathered in the Hallam Hall for the Shaa Society Lunch.

A story about the lunch can be read on the SGS Community Network.
