SGS marks fantastic Duke of Edinburgh’s Award year

Certificate winners at the 2024 Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Presentation Evening

The 17th annual Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Award Presentation Evening celebrated the hard work and determination of the pupils who took part at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels over the past academic year.

The evening featured talks from former pupil Chris Conlan (OS 1993) and Head of School Sachin Gholker. Pupils Dan Wood, Zac Dow and Will Harvey delighted the audience with a superb musical performance.

Miss Laura Turner, the school’s Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Co-ordinator, said: “This year was another fantastic year for DofE at SGS! It has been amazing to see so many pupils complete their awards. With over 120 completions, this is a great achievement.

“I am pleased to say that all teams have passed their expedition section, and we have been extremely impressed with pupils’ level on enthusiasm and skills on all of the expeditions. They have coped with varied conditions and worked extremely hard to complete their expeditions – whether it be walking, canoeing or mountain biking.

“Silver teams have been exceptional this year and we look forward to seeing them come up to Gold DofE. Whilst we had a smaller Gold cohort, they all still completed their expedition in North Wales with enthusiasm and determination.

“Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who give up their time to help the DofE expeditions – without them the DofE Award would not run.”
